A towplane uses most of its power to lift itself towards sky! In a typical towplane/glider combination over 75% of power is used by the towplane. A common towplane used today is built for too many purposes. Each extra purpose includes drawbacks in this role.

it is light, but robust enough
it is simple, systems that do not exist, can not be go broken.
